Can You Freeze Cranberry Sauce?

Question: I made some homemade cranberry sauce for our holiday dinner and have a lot left over. I would hate it throw it out- can I freeze the cranberry sauce instead?

Answer: Yes, cranberry sauce freezes very well. You can freeze both homemade and canned cranberry sauce with good results.

Freeze your leftover cranberry sauce in covered airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. For best results, use the frozen canned cranberry sauce within 1 to 2 months (although frozen cranberry sauce will remain safe to use indefinitely).

You can thaw the frozen cranberry sauce in the refrigerator, microwave or in cold water. (See here for detailed information on how to defrost food safely.)
